1996 Sonipat bomb blast: Abdul Karim Tunda awarded by life sentence

A Haryana court has pronounced its judgment in 1996 Sonipat bomb blasts case and awarded  Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda life imprisonment on Tuesday.

The additional sessions judge Sushil Garg has reportedly imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh against the  Lashkar-e-Taiba bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda.

It was reported that on Monday, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Sonipat has convicted the accused under the sections of 307 (attempt to murder) and 120 B (conspiracy) of the IPC.

The bomb blast took place near the busy streets of Sonipat, where dozens of people were severely injured in the year 1996.

Abdul Karim Tunda was held from Nepal in the year 2013.

Reports say, Two major bomb blasts took place on December 28, 1996, where the first blast took place Baba Tarana Cinema near the local bus stand, while another took place outside Gulshan Mishthan Bhandar at Geeta Bhawan Chowk injuring at least 15 people.

In his defense, Tunda said, he was in Pakistan when the blast took place.
