On Friday, Ex IAF chief Shashindra Pal Tyagi , including his cousin Sanjeev Tyagi also known as Julie Tyagi and lawyer-businessman Gautam Khaitan arrested by CBI alleged over inducement in the procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters from Anglo-Italian Company AgustaWestland at a cost of Rs 3,600 crore in 2010.
This is the first time that armed force officer of the country either retired or serving has been arrested for accepting bribery in defence procurement by the central probe agency” said officials.
SP Tyagi retired in 2007 and CBI has been regularly questioning him over the issue. This year also in May Enforcement Directorate questioned him regarding the case. From past three years, SP Tyagi and other two people were continuously denying that they have taken bribe.
All the three accused have been arrested under Section 120B, Section 420 IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 said CBI.
CBI also said undue favour was shown and AgustaWestland Ltd accepted illegal vendors through middlemen and relatives of Ex IAF chief Shashindra Pal Tyagi.
Today All three accused presented in the Patiala House court, has been sent to four-day CBI custody by a Delhi court. Now three of them will be presented before the court on December 14.
CBI had sent Letters Rogatory Letters to multiple countries including Italy, UK, Mauritius, British Virgin Islands, Tunisia, UAE Switzerland, Singapore, and Mauritius to gather more information in the case.
