Gauri Lankesh, a senior journalist from Bengaluru was allegedly shot dead at her Bengaluru residence on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place at her house where three assailants reportedly involved in the attack against the noted journalist.
T Suneel Kumar, Bengaluru Police Commissioner said in a statement, “A total of seven bullets were fired out of which four missed the target and hit the wall of the house. Three bullets had hit her – two in her chest area and one in the forehead”.
It was reported that Gauri Lankesh was found dead with the bullet wounds on her head and her chest in her verandah around 8 pm.
The 55-year-old Gauri Lankesh was the daughter of renowned poet-turned-journalist P Lankesh.
Lankesh was the editor of Kannada tabloid Gauri Lankesh Patrike, who used to write against Sangh organizations and the communal violence in the country.
While talking to the media Lankesh’s brother Indrajit said, “the case should be handed over to CBI”.
DGP RK Dutta said in a statement, “We got the information just now. She was returning home. Her home is in Ideal Home Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. She got down from her car and she was opening the gate when she was shot. The details are sketchy, and we are yet to know who has done it”.
Sources told the police that she was followed by a car as soon she left her office in Basavanagudi at 7.30PM.
Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi moved to twitter and condemns the killing of the senior journalist.
