The Income tax department conducted raids at the office and residence of former Union Minister SM Krishna’s son-in-law VG Siddhartha on Thursday morning.
“Directorate Revenue (Intelligence) officials are conducting simultaneous search and seizure operation to ascertain undisclosed income and tax evasion, if any, under section 132 of the Income Tax Act 1961 in the offices and residence of a businessman who owns Coffee Day retail outlets across the country”.
It was reported that the search operations were conducted in the cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Chikmagalur.
VG Siddhartha is the founder-owner of the Indian café chain outlets Café Coffee Day.
The main office of the firm which is situated in Bengaluru’s Vittal Mallya Road was also been raided by the officials.
It was discovered that Siddhartha belongs to the family who has been in the business of coffee for over 140 years. He also inherited 500 acres of the coffee plantation from his father.
The IT raid took place months after a veteran Congress politician SM Krishna joined the BJP in March this year.
