Coal Scam: CBI convicted Ex-Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda

As per the recent reports, a special court has convicted ex-Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda guilty of corruption and other offences in coal scam case.

Beside ex-Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, the court has also convicted former Coal Secretary H.C. Gupta, chief secretary A K Basu and private company Vini Iron and Steel Udyog Ltd (VISUL) guilty of varying offences including criminal conspiracy.

It was said that the all the accused were earlier granted bail by the court, after they had appeared in front of the court.

The CBI has filed the charge sheet in the year 2015.

It was reported that the court will hear the arguments of punishment on Thursday.

The case was registered under the sections of 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servants) of IPC and under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI has alleged that VISUL had applied for the allocation of coal block on January 8, 2007.
