Ahead of Diwali celebration in the country, Delhi Police has reportedly seized over 1,200 kg of fireworks items and arrested 29 people in connection with selling firecrackers in the capital.
The arrest was made following the order passed by the Supreme Court, banning the sale and purchase of firecrackers in Delhi.
Madhur Verma, Delhi Police Spokesperson said, “No firecracker shop in the capital would be allowed to open till November 1. We have seized more than 1,200 kg of firecrackers and made 29 arrests so far from various areas of Delhi. Dozens of firecracker shops were forced to shut on Tuesday,
It was reported that the arrest was made Sadar Bazar and Lahori Gate areas in Delhi.
Police officials said that 29 FIRs were also registered. The case was registered against 21 people in connection with the selling of the firecrackers after the apex court ban the sale of crackers in Delhi-NCR.
Madhur Verma, PRO, Delhi Police said in a statement, “In the crackdown, following the Supreme Court order, the police have seized 1,241 kilograms of firecrackers and registered 29 FIRs and arrested 29 people”.
Following this, two Delhi Police personnel who were posted in Mangolpuri Police Station were allegedly suspended for failing to curb the sale of firecrackers in the national capital.
