At least 60 kids have died in a span of past five days at the Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to order a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
According to reports, the deaths are being faulted for diseases and conceivable disturbance of oxygen supply in the paediatrics ward however the hospital and district administration have rejected oxygen deficiency as a reason.
The carelessness has brought up an issue over the prevailing infrastructure in the State-run hospitals in Uttar Pradesh.
The hospital is in chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s constituency and he took stock of courses of action at the encephalitis wards two days prior during a visit.
Most deaths were reported from the neonatal and encephalitis wards.
UP Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh, while addressing to the media, said an “appropriate investigation is to be done and brisk action would be made. It’s a major issue”. It’s a serious issue”. He urged the Opposition parties to not politicise the tragic deaths.
The CM has directed the ministers to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and guarantee strict action.
