Rourkela: A man from Palmara village in Bargaon block of Sundergarh district allowed her newlywed wife to marry her lover on Saturday.
Earlier the 28-year-old guy Basudeb Tappo had married the 24-year-old woman from Jharsuguda on March 4. The wedding took place as per rituals of the farmer community.
On Saturday, three young men who claimed to be cousins of Tappo’s wife visited the couple. They were welcomed by the Tappo’s family. Two of them left to see village sights while one of them was allegedly seen with the wife.
After coming to awareness, a group of locals gathered at the house and started beating the lover. The newly married woman then came forward to confess that they had been lovers. Her relatives opposed the marriage and she was forced to marry Tappo instead. The youngest of the three siblings have parents no longer alive.
By seeing the situation, Tappo suggested his wife marry her lover. He then contacted her relatives to convince them of the plan. The family members gathered at Pamara for a traditional wedding ceremony.
Tappo told the media, “The lives of three people would have been destroyed had I not done this. This was the only solution. Now all of us can be happy.” His mother Sanibari Tappo echoed her son. “Our lives would have become more complicated had this solution not been reached,” she said.
Gajendra Bagh, the sarpanch of Pamara village, said: “When we came to know of Basudev’s decision, we felt that it was the most proper thing to do in such a situation. So the entire village came forward to support his wife’s second marriage.”
