A fake Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer was arrested by the Cyberabad police at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) airport on Tuesday.

The accused was identified as M Nageshwar Rao by the police official.

It was reported that the M Nageshwar Rao was arrested by the Cyberabad police after he showed his faked ID card to the Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport while he was returning from Vijayawada.

Following this, Customs officials asked M Nageshwar Rao about his source of the Rs 26 lakh which he was carrying at that time.

A police official said in a statement, “When security officials enquired about the amount. Mr. Rao showed a fake ID card of the CBI department. Upon enquiry, the CBI said there was no official with such a name, hence he was intercepted”.

It was learned that M Nageshwar Rao was being remanded to judicial custody.

Reports say that the accused has earlier worked as an accounts manager in a private company, because of his ill health he was removed from his work.
