India launched its second submarine “INS Khanderi” in Mumbai

On Thursday, India revealed its second Scorpene-class submarine named “INS Khanderi” at Mumbai’s Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.

Union minister of state for defence, Dr Subhash Bhamre and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba were present to initiate the launch of “INS Khanderi”. Submarine was launched by the wife of Union minister of state for defence Mrs. Bina Bhamre.

Khanderi is the India’s second French designed submarine, built at MDL in collaboration with M/s DCNS of France. As first one is “Kalaveri” which is currently completing sea trials and will be commissioned shortly into the Indian Navy.

INS Khanderi is built with all modern specifications, which enable it to perform in multifarious types of missions including Anti-Surface warfare, Intelligence gathering, Mine Laying, Area Surveillance and many more.
