The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly blamed budget carrier IndiGo for its negligence which caused injuries to a passenger, who allegedly fall off from her wheelchair while being assisted by an IndiGo staff at the Lucknow airport.
The incident took place at around 8 pm on Saturday.
The IndiGo claimed that the misshaped took place due to crack in the floor at the airport.
Following this, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has said that it occurred due to gross negligence of IndiGo staff.
The AAI said in a statement,”The IndiGo loader ferrying the passenger in a wheelchair, went in the wrong direction by taking a shortcut ignoring the defined path”.
The IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement, “Our IndiGo representative was pushing her wheelchair towards the arrival hall. As he was guiding her wheelchair through a vehicular lane, which was dimly lit at that time of the night, her wheelchair got stuck in a deep crack on the tarmac and lost balance and she fell off her wheelchair”.
It was learned that the passenger was allegedly injured in the mishap and was immediately rushed to the doctor of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
It was further added, “As per IndiGo’s loader involved in this incident, the passenger (on wheelchair) was carrying a four-knob walking stick. The passenger placed her walking stick on the road while the loader was still pushing the wheelchair. This resulted in the unfortunate incident of the passenger falling from the wheelchair”.
However, a detailed investigation is in progress where CCTV footage will also be examined.
