Following a social media outburst, necessary changes will take place to the statue of former leader Jayalalithaa that unveiled at its party headquarters on Saturday.
The Chennai based party headquarters unveiled the bronze statue on her 70th birth anniversary. People gathered in huge numbers at the unveiling of the statue of famous party leader also known as Amma. However, the facial features did not completely match the ex-leader.
Twitterati and FB users took to social media to comment on the statue. Many including the officials said that it did not look like the former leader. They have asked AIDMK to alter the statue.
K Pandiarajan, Development Minister said that there was a proposal to make few changes to the statue’s facial features.
On the other hand, the Dairy Minister, KT Rajenthra Bali said that he found the statue ‘quite realistic’. It resembles the way ‘Amma’ used to wave at us whenever she used to come to the party office.
What is creating more ruckus is that the sculptor is from the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh. On this condition of anonymity, a party official told the media, “we need not have gone outside the state to get this sculpture done. We have eight centres in Tamil Nadu where people from all parts of India come to get statues made. It is obvious that the entire statue will have to be remade and put up. It is made of bronze. It will not be possible to change the face alone.”
On Saturday, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also launched the Amma Scooter scheme on her birth anniversary. It is a flagship program of the ruling party AIADMK. The scheme will offer Rs 25000 subsidy to women to buy two-wheelers.
Jayaram Jayalalithaa is a former chief minister of Tamil Nadu. She is the founder and former leader of AIDMK party. She died of cardiac arrest last year.
