Jet Airways, Air Hostess Arrested for Smuggling 3 Crore in Dollars

Deveshi Kulshrestha, An air hostess in Jet Airways was arrested while boarding a flight to Hong-Kong on Monday by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

Deveshi Kulshrestha a 25-year-old Jet Airways air hostess who had been working with Jet Airways over six Years was arrested on Monday as she caught smuggling 3.21 Crore dollars which were wrapped in the aluminum foil.

According to the officials, Deveshi accepted that she had carried 10 Lakh dollars in last two months. And was paid one Lac for each trip.

This all started in August 2017, when Amit Malhotra, a resident of Delhi, who ran a tour agency met with Deveshi during the flight while traveling from Hong Kong to Delhi on Jet Airways. He was really impressed with Deveshi the way she was assisting the travelers. On the same flight, the conversation had begun between two while Deveshi was taking the break after serving the dinner to the flyers.

Amit Malhotra introduced himself and they both exchanged their contact numbers. After which Malhotra told his plan to Deveshi and convinced her to carry the illegal money to Hong Kong.

Officials said Amit was in contact with many bullion dealers from whom he just collects the money and tries to get in touch with the airline workers so that he could transfer the illegal hard currency to abroad which was later returned back in the form of gold.

According to the investigators, Amit too had traveled many times to the Hong Kong for its money laundering business.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had already arrested Amit and Deveshi both. Also, they both have been sent for the judicial custody for two days by the city court.

The DRI said that the investigation will not be stopped and more crew member will be interrogated for the same as DRI claimed that It’s an international Hawala racket which was operating.
