In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court has granted a woman on Monday to abort her 26th week of foetus, which suffers severe cardiac ailments.
It was reported that a six-month pregnant woman was allowed by the Supreme Court to abort her 26-week-old foetus after it was reported that the baby suffers severe cardiac complications and could endanger her life too.
“Keeping in view the report of the medical board, we are inclined to allow the prayer and direct medical termination of pregnancy of petitioner no. 1 (woman)”, the bench said.
The bench of judges agreed to carry out an abortion on the grounds that the mother would suffer “severe mental injury” if the pregnancy would continue and if the child born alive then will undergo severe cardiac ailment surgery.
