Kopardi rape and murder case: Court awards death sentence to all convicts

In a recent development to Kopardi rape and murder case, the court has convicted all three accused and awarded death sentence, where three men were found guilty of raping and murdering a 15-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Kopardi village in the year 2016.

It was reported that on November 18, the court convicted three men on charges of rape, murder, and criminal conspiracy.

The additional special judge Suvarna Kevale has awarded death sentence to Nitin Gopinath Bhailume, Jitendra Babulal Shinde, and Santosh Gorakh Bhawal.

It was believed that on July 13, 2016, the three convicts have brutally raped a 14-year-old girl in Kopardi village in Karjat taluka of Ahmednagar district.

Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said in a statement, “Since there was no eyewitness in the case, the entire case was based on circumstantial evidence. We succeeded in proving the chain of circumstances which led to the conviction of all the three people”.

On the other hand, Father of the victim said that “We thank public prosecutor, chief minister and the entire Maratha community for their efforts in bringing the accused to books”.

However, the case was registered under the sections of sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of Indian Penal Code.
