Legendary Urdu poet Anwar Jalapuri, who translated Gita into Urdu, dies

The eminent Urdu poet Anwar Jalalpuri, who has translated Bhagavad Gita into Urdu reportedly died on Tuesday.

It was reported that poet Anwar Jalalpuri suffered a cardiac arrest, confirmed a hospital official.

Sources said that Anwar Jalalpuri got admitted to the trauma centre of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on December 28, after he suffered a brain stroke.

It was learned that he allegedly slipped and has fallen in a bathroom and sustained a head injury.

Since then, he was on a ventilator, the hospital said.

Jalalupri’s son Jannisar said in a statement, “On December 28, my father went for a bath but didn’t come out for a long time. When we broke open the door, we found him lying unconscious”.

It was believed that his condition becomes worse on Monday.

A hospital spokesperson said in a statement, “Anwar Jalalpuri has breathed his last around 11 a.m. on Tuesday”.

The well-known poet was awarded  Yash Bharati by the Uttar Pradesh government.
