Militants opened overwhelming fire on army camp in Nagrota area on the outskirts of the city, 15 Kms from Jammu in which, a Major, three soldiers and the same number of militants were reported killed in the cross fire on Tuesday.
It is reported as second such assault on an armed force in the consecutive months.
According to reports, the cross fire started around 5:30 am in which the cross fire was occurring between the attackers and the security forces.
According to police, “A group of heavily armed militants, believed to be four-to-five in number, attacked the 166 field regiment camp in Nagrota area of Jammu in the morning”.
If sources are to be believed, “The terrorists first threw a grenade on the guard stationed at the main gate after which they started firing indiscriminately”.
Defence PRO Manish Mehta told the agencies that, “We will share information after operation is over. Firing is going on but situation under control”.
A BSF Jawan said in a statement, “In the general area of Border out Post Chamliyal, Samba, suspicious movement was noticed. The area was immediately cordoned off. When challenged, BSF patrol was fired upon by miscreants holed up in a tube well pump house”.
Meanwhile, schools have been ordered to shutdown and the traffic has been halted on the Jammu-Udhampur expressway.
