In a horrific incident, at least 23 passengers were reportedly killed and more than 70 were injured after an 14 coaches of the Utkal Express ran off the tracks in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar on Saturday evening.
The incident took place near Khatauli town in Muzaffarnagar around 5.45pm on Saturday.
It was reported that the train was coming from Puri in Odisha and heading towards Haridwar in Uttarakhand.
Anil Saxena, railways spokesperson said in a statement, “Initially, we thought that it was only 4-5 coaches, now we have ascertained that 14 coaches have derailed. As of now, our focus is on rescue and not on finding reasons for the accident”.
The team of PAC, ATS, and NDRF were rushed to the spot.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi moved to twitter to express his sadness over the matter.
