A 36-year-old popular news anchor who worked for a Telugu channel committed suicide by allegedly jumping from the fifth floor of a residential building in Hyderabad today.
The incident occurred during the late hours of Sunday. The deceased has been identified as V Radhika Reddy. She succumbed multiple injuries to her hand and limbs and died on the spot.
In her suicide note, she wrote that she was under depression due to some family dispute. It also stated that no one is responsible for her death and her brain was the enemy.
The police found that she came to the house and at around 10.40 pm and went to the top floor of the building and jumped.
She had divorced six months ago with her husband and was living with her child at her parents house.
A case was registered at Kukatpalli police station. The post-mortem will be conducted today. The police ruled out any foul play behind the incident and are doing further investigation.
“She has a 14-year old son who has been suffering from autism. But she never talked about her family problems in the office and was always jovial. She was an efficient worker and anchored several programmes, particularly devotional programmes,” one of the news correspondents of the channel said on condition of anonymity.
She anchored 9 pm news bulletin on the channel and had read her last news bulletin normally, without showing any kind of emotion. “We never expected that she would take such an extreme step,” he added.
