Latest reports have confirmed that residents in Noida spent a huge sum in liquor this fiscal year. The spending amounts to Rs 775 crore in 10 months.
Net sales are expected to hit 930 crores at the end of this fiscal about to complete in March. Officials have said that the increase of consumers is on a high because of increased women drinkers.
Consumers in Noida consumed at least 66.71 lakh litres of liquor in the ongoing financial year. It includes 123 lakh bottles of beer and 46.22 lakh bottles India based foreign liquor.
The canned beer sale is on a rise. “Young people prefer canned beer. Increase in high-end IMFL has also been noticed. The segments increased 5 to 10% during 2017-18.” Singh added.
Rakesh Kumar Singh, District excise officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar said,”Consumption of liquor has registered an 11.3% increase while beer registered a 1.49% increase. The Consumption of IMFL has increased by 12.45%.”
Excise revenue hit one of the liquor shops situated on the Delhi NCR and Noida border. People usually buy liquor from Delhi due to the cheap rates at which they sell. Arpit Sharma, a licensed liquor salesman said that the consumption is 30% more than actual sales in Noida.
Women consuming liquor in the city have asked the vending of liquor in city malls and lines of Delhi and Gurgaon. A senior executive from MNC in Sector 63 said that they feel not just awkward but also embarrassed to go and buy liquor. Instead, they send a male friend.
Mr Singh further added that as of now, there is no liquor vend in malls in Noida. However, it can be considered if a request is made to the excise commissioner and the state government.
