Indore-Patna Express Derails near Kanpur, over 100 dead and more than 200 injured

Indore-Patna Express derailed near Kanpur. The incident took place around at 3am today morning near Pukhrayan in Kanpur.

Fourteen coaches were derailed and four coaches of the train -S1, S2, S3 and S4 were badly damaged. Over 200 people were reported injured and 107 dead bodies have been evacuated. Injured people were immediately admitted to nearby hospital in the area.

Police and team of army doctors have arrived on the spot. Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, one from Varanasi and one from Lucknow have been sent to the accident spot. Rescue operation is still going on. Indian railways has issued following helpline numbers for assistance :

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each for families of those who died in an accident , Rs 50,000 for seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for minor injured. He also instructed Arun Kumar Sinha, Principal secretary of state’s health ministry to ensure that there should not be any shortage of medicines and blood for the treatment of patients.

The exact cause of the incident will be only known after the completion of proper inquiry.
