In 14th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bengaluru on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Portugal PM António Costa, the chief guest of the meet. The prime minister reached Bengaluru earlier in the day and was received at the airport by Union Minister Ananth Kumar, Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other ministers.
While inaugurating 14th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas which took place in Bengaluru, PM, Modi said that the government will soon launch a massive skill development program which will help Indian youth who seek employment overseas.
While speaking on the brain-drain Modi said, “When people spoke of brain drain, it was believed that the brighter people went abroad seeking employment opportunities… but we are converting that brain drain to brain gain”.
PM, Modi said, “About 30 million Indians who stay abroad are valued not just for strength in numbers, but respected for contributions to India & countries where they live. The Indian diaspora represents the best of Indian culture, ethos, and values”.
Adding further to this he said, “Security of all Indians abroad is a top priority. We don’t see the color of the passport, but the blood ties”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that skill development program Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojna will soon be launched for the Indian youths who seeks employment overseas. He asked all the PIO card holders to change over their PIO (Person of Indian inception) Cards to OCI (Overseas native of India) Cards.
