Sadhvi rape: Punjab, Haryana on high alert

A special CBI court said it will pronounce its verdict in a rape case against the Godman Gurmeet Ram Raheem and the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda on August 25.

It was reported that Punjab, Haryana on high alert after violence by Dera Sacha Sauda followers feared in the city.

An official said in a statement, “Security forces have been pressed into service in border areas and the central government has already been requested to provide 115 companies of paramilitary forces”.

A sect chief has a lakh of followers in Punjab, Haryana and other parts of the country, was accused by a former female follower for allegedly raping her inside the sprawling Dera campus near Sirsa town in Haryana.

The case was registered in the year 2002 against the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Raheem.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh authorities have decided to convert the cricket stadium into a temporary jail on August 25.

A senior police officer said, “We are expecting followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Raheem to enter in the city. We cannot put a large number of people in a lock up so we have chosen the stadium to convert into temporary jail for a day”.

Meanwhile, Amid tension growing in the city, Chandigarh administrations has declared gazetted holidays in all government offices, educational institutions and Banks on August 24 and 25.
