Sanjay Mitra took charge as new Defence Secretary

In a recent development, Sanjay Mitra, who was appointed as the new Defence Secretary by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has taken charge as new Defence Secretary on Thursday afternoon.

It was reported that on May 10, Sanjay Mitra was appointed as Officer on Special duty in the Defence Ministry.

After the successful completion of G. Mohan Kumar’s tenure (ex- Defence Secretary),  Mitra took charge as a new Defence Secretary.

It was believed that the new Defence Secretary will have fixed two-year tenure to serve.

However, Sanjay Mitra has also served as Chief Secretary in West Bengal under the governance of Manmohan Singh from November 2004 to July 2011.
