Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed near Rura-Metha railway station in Kanpur Dehat district. The incident took place at around 5.20 am on Wednesday.
Fifteen coaches were derailed and over 40 people injured. Initially it was reported that 2 people killed and later ministry of railways clarifies in a notification that no death has been reported yet and 44 people injured in the accident.
Police and rescue team arrived on the spot and the probe is under process. The exact cause of the incident will be only known after the completion of proper investigation.
Injured passengers have been admitted to the nearest hospital and the team of doctors also reached immediately at the accident site.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on twitter “Personally monitoring the situation in wake of unfortunate derailment of Sealdah-Ajmer express near Kanpur.” He also directed the senior officials to reach the accident site immediately.
The minister also said in a series of tweets “Ex-gratia will be paid to injured. All passengers are being provided with necessary assistance to ensure least inconvenience. Doing our best”.
This is a second rail mishap in Kanpur. As earlier on November 20, Indore-Patna Express also derailed near Pukhrayan in which over 100 people killed and more than 200 injured.
