UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was shifted to Delhi after she fell sick in Shimla on Thursday. She was in Chharabra village, 14 km from Shimla for a private visit with her daughter Priyanka Vadra.

Earlier they traveled to Shimla via road from Chandigarh on Wednesday and stayed at Wildflower Hall, an Oberoi Group luxury resort.

She was there to check the construction work of Priyanka’s cottage. When she returned to the hotel, she complained of uneasiness.

Sources say that she had some breathing problem.

Initially, Sonia was brought to a Chandigarh hospital from Shimla before taken back to New Delhi in a special aircraft. Earlier, she was scheduled to return on Friday.

Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital Medical Superintendent Ramesh Chand accompanied the Congress leader from Shimla to Chandigarh.

An official said, “Since she (Sonia Gandhi) refused to get examined at Indira Gandhi Medical College (in Shimla) and insisted on reaching Chandigarh, she was taken to Chandigarh late night and from there she was taken to New Delhi.”

Her health complication was mainly due to cold conditions after a dip in temperature following rains and thunderstorm in the area.

“Her condition is stable,” Chand told the media.

Situated at a height above 8000 feet amid verdant pine and cedar trees, Priyanka’s cottage is spread in around 0.4 hectares. It is close to the president of India’s summer holiday retreat in Chharabra.

Interestingly, Sonia Gandhi felt ill the last time when she came to Shimla. Her visit comes immediately after the Congress Plenary Session that was held last week.
