A six-year-old student in Pune was reportedly beaten up by his school teacher for making a spelling error in his class workbook.
The boy was admitted to a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries to his hand and back.
He studies in Class 1 at Swami Samarth English Medium School. The police say that the teacher scolded him with a duster and stick and banged his head on the bench in the classroom on Thursday.
A school official, Sanjay Patil told the media,” We will speak to the teacher concerned and students who were present in the classroom before taking any action.”
We learned about the case only after the complaint was registered with the police,” Patil added.
Father of the student spoke, “ My son has been admitted again in the hospital today (on Sunday).”
The student was discharged later.
The police have said that they are investigating the matter.
The boy’s father lodged a complaint against the teacher, handed over the boy’s medical report to the cops. A case is registered under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The complainant said that his child was in a frightened state when he reached home from his school. He noticed swelling on his son’s head. He took him to a hospital for treatment where also found the boy’s back was blue and blue with whipping marks caused by the stick.
