In a horrific incident, a journalist was reportedly shot dead by a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) trooper in Tripura’s Bodhjung Nagar on Tuesday.
The incident took place near the headquarters of the (Tripura State Rifles) TSR on Tuesday.
The senior journalist was identified as Sudip Datta Bhaumick by the police officials.
It was reported that the senior journalist was shot dead under mysterious circumstances at the headquarters of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) near Agartala.
Abhijit Saptarshi, a Senior police officer said in a statement, “The motive of the killing or what really happened is not clear. We have started investigations and have taken the jawan in custody”.
It was learned that the journalist was working with a Bengali newspaper.
The 48-year-old Sudip Datta Bhaumick was working with ‘Syandan Patrika’.
An official said one TSR constable has been arrested following the incident.
Tapan Debbarma, the bodyguard of the TSR’s Second Battalion Commandant, opened fire killing Sudip Datta Bhaumik on the spot, said police official.
