A truck carrying ‘Baraat’ for a wedding ceremony fell into a drain in Gujrat’s Bhavnagar district, killing 25 people and leaving more than a dozen injured.
The truck crashed in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. It fell into a drain in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accident took place near Ranghola situated on the Rajkot-Bhavnagar state highway. Those who were injured were taken to a local government hospital for treatment while those who are dead are sent to the families.
A report by the administration said,” Relief and rescue operations are currently underway. Senior police officers of the region have rushed to the accident spot.”
Bhavnagar district is situated about 200 kilometers south-west of the state capital Ahmedabad.
The death toll is expected to increase as the cause has led to gravies injuries among those on board. The passengers also remained trapped for a long time inside the truck that overturned leaving survivors in shock.
In a media release, the officials said that the majority of the deceased include women and children.
The police said,” Initial investigations indicated the driver lost control causing the truck to swerve off the bridge and fall eight meters onto a dry riverbed in Gujarat state.”KJ Kadapda, Inspector General, Gujarat Police further added,” Around 60 persons were traveling in the truck and most victims are women and children.”
District Collector, Harshad Kumar Patel confirmed that at least 25 persons have lost their lives in the accident.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi took to Twitter to offer his condolences regarding the incident.
