Union Home Secretary: Rajiv Gauba took charge as New Union Home Secretary

Senior IAS officer Rajiv Gauba reportedly took charge as the Union Home Secretary on Thursday morning.

A statement released by the Ministry reads, “He has wide-ranging experience in senior positions in the central and state governments and in international organisations. Hailing from Punjab, the 1959 born Gauba is a Physics graduate”.

Before taking charge as a new Union Home Secretary, Senior IAS officer Rajiv Gauba was Secretary in the Urban Development Ministry.

It was believed that after taking charge as new Union Home Secretary, he will be handling the issues which include internal security, militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rajiv Gauba is from 1982 batch officer of Jharkhand cadre, who was appointed as the next home secretary about two months back.

It was reported that the Rajiv Gauba has worked as Chief Secretary of Jharkhand for 15 months before joining in the central government in the Ministries of Defence, Home, Environment and Forests and Department of Electronics and Information Technology.

Rajiv Gauba was born in Punjab in the year 1958 and completed his graduation from Patna University.

Gauba has also represented the country on the board of International Monetary Fund for four years.
