At least three persons were killed and seven others were reported injured after a train from Vasco Da Gama, Goa derailed near Manikpur railway station in the wee hours of Friday morning.
It was reported that the train was heading towards Patna from Vasco Da Gama, Goa.
Officials said that three coaches of Vasco Da Gama-Patna Express derailed at around 4:18 am in Uttar Pradesh.
Anil Saxena, Railway spokesperson said in a statement, “Patients have been admitted to Manikpur and Chitrakoot Hospital and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has been closely monitoring the situation. He had instructed the railway board chairman to rush to the spot”.
Following the incident, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to family members of passengers who reportedly died in the train derailment, whereas, Rs 1 lakh will be given who suffered grievous injuries.
Amit Malviya, North Central Railway PRO said, “The injured have been rushed to the hospital and officials have left for the spot. Relief operations are underway”.
Railways have issued the helpline numbers for the family members of the victims.
