As per the recent reports, a senior diplomat Vijay Gokhale has been reportedly appointed as the next Foreign Secretary of India.
Following this, it was believed that Vijay Gokhale will succeed Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as the Foreign Secretary after his completion of tenure on January 28.
A statement by the Department of Personnel and Training reads, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Vijay Keshav Gokhale (IFS: 1981), Secretary (Economic Relations), Ministry of External Affairs as the Foreign Secretary vice Dr. S Jaishankar, who is completing his tenure on 28.01. 2018”.
It was reported that Vijay Gokhale is presently the secretary (economic relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
He will serve for a two-year fixed term after his appointment.
It is said to be Vijay Gokhale is a 1981 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
It was believed that Gokhale is the Indian ambassador to China.
In his long career of more than three decades, Vijay Gokhale has served in Hong Kong, Germany, Vietnam, China and the United States.
