Popular Malayalam actor Dileep was arrested on 10 July evening on charges of conspiracy and abduction of Malayalam actress in Kochi in February this year.
The 48-year-old actor has been sent to a 14-day judicial custody by a court in Angamaly. Dileep was later shifted to a sub-jail in Aluva, in the outskirts of Kochi, which is also his hometown, around 25 kms from the city.
His lawyer, Ram Kumar, said that they will move for bail on Wednesday.
Crowd gathered outside the residence of the magistrate and booed and shouted slogans against the actor ‘Welcome to Central Jail’. The actor’s last release in 2016 was titled ‘Welcome To Central Jail’. Similar scenes were witnessed outside the Aluva sub jail.
Dileep became a part of the case after his name appeared in a letter written by the main accused Pulsar Suni’s former cellmate in which he was asked to pay Rs 1.5 crore so that Suni would not implicate him.
According to police, the actress was kidnapped and assaulted on 19 February in a moving care on her way to Kochi and later she was dropped near her residence at around 10.30 pm. Reports indicate that the conspiracy behind the abduction was hatched several years back and it was in the second attempt to harass the woman.
