Mithali Raj Biopic: Life story of Indian women’s cricket team captain will soon be made

There comes another biopic in line, a story of a girl who has inspired millions of girls and broke the gender equality myth by becoming Indian cricketer and the captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team- Mithali Raj.

Now, the story of the Indian cricketer Mithali Raj will be documented on the silver screen soon.

Recently, the Indian Women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj featured and managed her space on glamour magazine Vogue’s front cover on the occasion of its 10th anniversary with the prominent personalities which include Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan, Nita Ambani and among others.

Mithali Raj became the first player to score 7 consecutive 50s in ODIs.

It was learned that the rights of the film have been acquired by the Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

In a statement, Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures said, “Viacom18 Motion Pictures has always been the pioneer in showcasing content with the portrayal of strong women characters right from ‘Queen’ to ‘Kahaani’ to ‘Mary Kom’”.

It was reported that Mithali Raj is the only woman cricketer to chase 6,000 run mark in ODIs.

Adding further to this, he said, “We are proud to be collaborating with the young and inspirational Mithali Dorai Raj, a name single-handedly responsible for bringing about a shift in the way women’s cricket team was perceived in our country”.

While responding to this, the Indian cricketer Mithali Raj said, “I am extremely happy with this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career”.

The Women’s cricket team captain has been honoured with the Arjuna awardee and Padma Shri in 2015 for her contribution.
