Alastair Cook stepped down as England’s test Captain after 59 test with an immediate effect on Monday.

The 32-year-old cook was appointed as England’s test captain in August 2012. The decision comes after recent defeat faced by England team in the Test series against India in December 2016. However, he will continue to play for his team.

Cook said “It’s been a huge honor to be England’s captain and to lead the Test Team over the past five years. Stepping down has been an incredibly hard decision but I know this is the correct decision for me and at the right time for the team.”

Joe Root is expected to succeed Alastair Cook as England’s test captain.
