Jeje Lalpekhlua scored twice and broke his 650-minute league drought to help his side Chennaiyin FC enter the finals of the Indian Super League. They will meet Chettri led Bengaluru FC at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday.
Chennaiyin FC scored the opener in the 26th minute to break his goalless drought. He also scored another goal in the 90th minute. Dhanpal Ganesh doubled the lead in the first half by scoring the second just after 2 minutes Jeje scored the first goal.
Chennaiyin defeated Goa 4-1 on aggregate. Despite being dominant on the field with 66 percent possession, Goa was not able to able to score a single goal in the second leg. Chennaiyin, on the other hand, had a pragmatic approach. They seized most of the opportunities that came their way.
Goa played with aggression and energy and that created plenty of chances in the first 20 minutes but Chennaiyin’s defense was too good, they barely made any mistakes. They defied the odds like Ferran Corominas and Manuel Lanzarote who share 30 goals between them.
The goalkeeper Karanjit Singh made two saves each in the first and the second half. A total of 19013 crowds gathered at the stadium for the second semi-final.
Earlier, Bengaluru FC defeated FC Pune City 3-1 on Sunday to enter the finals of the ongoing 4th edition of ISL in Bangalore. Sunil Chettri scored his hat-trick. BFC has been dominant throughout the season with the most number of wins and is the favorite to win their maiden ISL title this year.
