CSK qualifies in the playoffs; RR keeps semi-final chances alive

Ambati Rayudu scored his unbeaten hundred as his side register victory by eight wickets against table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MCA Stadium, Pune on Sunday.

Ambati Rayudu scored unbeaten 100 runs off just 62 balls which included 7 sixes and seven boundaries while chasing a target of 180 runs set by the SRH. Shane Watson too scored his half-century (57) before getting run out in the fourteenth over. MS Dhoni provided the finishing touch with unbeaten 20 runs as CSK beat SRH with an over to spare.

Sandeep Sharma was the only one to pick a wicket for SRH.

Earlier, CSK sent in SRH to bat first after winning the toss. They went off a flier after an early scare that saw Alex Hales depart for just 2 runs. Kane Williamson (51) and Shikhar Dhawan (79) put on a partnership of 123 runs for the second wicket. Deepak Hooda chipped in with his 21 as SRH posted 179 runs on the scorecard for the loss of 6 wickets.

Shardul Thakur picked two wickets while Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo shared one wicket each.

Ambati Rayudu was adjudged Man of the Match.

The win ensures CSK qualifies in the playoffs.


RR defeats MI by 7 wickets

In the later game, Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets to keep their qualification chances alive for the playoffs.

RR won the toss and opted to field. Batting first, MI posted a total of 168 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Openers Surya Kumar Yadav scored 38 runs while Evin Lewis scored his half-century (60). However, the middle order did not play up to occasion. Hardik Pandya contributed 36 runs.

Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes picked two wickets each.

In reply, Jos Buttler continued his good form. He scored an unbeaten 94 runs off 53 balls as he hit five sixes and nine fours. Ajinkya Rahane scored 37 runs while Sanju Samson contributed 26 runs as RR beat MI by 7 wickets with 2 overs left.

Hardik Pandya scalped two wickets.

Jos Buttler was awarded Man of the Match.

RR needs to win their remaining two matches if they have to qualify for the playoffs.

MI semi-final chances are over.


In today’s match, Kings XI Punjab will play Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Holkar Stadium. RCB play-off chances are over and they will be looking forward to spoiling the party for the KXIP. RCB has won their previous game while KXIP has lost winning momentum from last few matches.
