Delhi Daredevils defeated Rajasthan Royals by a small margin of 4 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday to keep themselves alive in the tournament.
Delhi now needs to win all their league stage matches to qualify for the top 4 in the IPL.
The match started late due to rain and was shortened to 18 overs per side. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Delhi Daredevils scored 196 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 17.1 overs when the interrupted twice.
Prithvi Shaw provided a cracking start as he scored 47 runs off 25 balls after Colin Munro departed for a duck. Skipper Iyer scored fifty off 35 balls while Risabh Pant dominated the bowling to score 69 runs off just 29 balls that included 5 sixes and 7 fours. He won the Man of the Match award.
Jaydev Unadkat picked three wickets.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals got a revised target of 151 runs in 12 overs. The openers almost took the game away as D Arcy Short scored 44 runs off 25 balls while Jos Buttler hit 67 runs off 26 deliveries that included 7 sixes and four fours. But once they got out the team lost few wickets in quick succession as they fell short by 4 runs despite Krishnappa Gowtham’s late cameo of 18 runs off six balls.
Trent Boult scalped two wickets.
In today’s match, Kolkata Knight Riders will play Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens stadium. Both teams have won their previous games. CSK defeated KKR by 5 wickets in the last encounter.
