Christopher Henry Gayle scored the first century in this edition of IPL as Kings XI Punjab defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 15 runs.
Gayle who completed his sixth century of the IPL scored an unbeaten 104 runs off just 63 balls that included 11 sixes and one four as Kings XI Punjab posted 193 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their 20 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday.
He was adjudged Man of the Match.
Rashid Khan was expensive among all the bowlers. He gave away 55 runs in his quota of four overs. Shakib Al Hasan was also punished, he bowled two overs for 28 runs.
In reply, SRH never looked in control. Shikhar Dhawan got retired hurt off the very first ball he faced and then Wriddhiman Saha couldn’t reach double figures. Kane Williamson (54) Manish Pandey (57*) scored their half-centuries respectively but looked in control of the required run-rate and as a result, they lagged behind by 15 runs.
Mohit Sharma and Andrew Tye scalped two wickets each.
It was the first loss for SRH in this season. Kings XI Punjab now have 6 points in first four games, they have not lost a home game this season.
In today’s game, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will play Ajinkya Rahane’s Rajasthan Royals at the PCA Stadium in Pune. The duo last played together for the same franchise last year and is familiar with the conditions and will look to use it to their advantage. Both CSK and RR have lost their previous game.
