International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the appointment of Pepsico Chairman & CEO Indra Nooyi as its first Independent Female Director.
The ICC Full Council decided to introduce the position of Independent female director in June 2017 which aimed to improve the global governance of the sport.
There were total more than 100 applicants who had been shortlisted for the position and Indra Nooyi was the one out of the shortlisted applicants who was nominated to become the first independent female director.
Indra Nooyi will join the ICC in June 2018 and will align to the term of International Cricket Council.
Initially, the term of service will be for two years, after which she may re-appointed for two consecutive terms which may exceed her term of service period till six consecutive years.
Indra Nooyi, who had done her Post graduation in management from IIM Calcutta in 1976 had already shown its excellent management in PepsiCo by generating more than $1 billion each in annual retail sales.
And now she had appointed by the International Cricket Council for the new position to give a new edge to the cricket world as well.
In a statement, Nooyi said, “I am thrilled to join the ICC as the first person to be appointed to this role. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board, ICC’s partners and cricketers around the world to grow our sport responsibly and give our fans a new reason to follow every ball and shot,”
