India thrash Sri Lanka by an innings and 171 runs in the third and final Test to register their eighth consecutive series win.

Ruthless India beat Sri Lanka inside three days of the final Test to complete a 3-0 whitewash in Pallekele on Monday, an historic series sweep away from home.

On the third day of final test match, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 181 in the second innings after asking them to follow-on, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 4-68 and Mohammed Shami 3-32. This is India’s first ever clean-sweep away from home in a series with atleast three Tests.

India made 487 in their first innings before bowling Sri Lanka out for 135 in their first innings on Sunday.

Sri Lanka’s best partnership of 65 came between captain Dinesh Chandimal, who made 36, and former skipper Angelo Mathews (35) while wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella scored a fluent 41.
