MS Dhoni produced wonderful innings by scoring 79 runs off 44 balls but couldn’t bring the team to the victory line as CSK lost to KXIP Punjab by 4 runs in the high voltage game that took place in Mohali on Sunday.

Dhoni who battled with his backache almost managed to finish it off in style as he scored 79 runs off 44 balls that included 5 sixes and six fours but eventually lost the game to his former team-mate R Ashwin’s side Kings XI Punjab by a small margin.

He kept the game going as CSK was left to score around 55 runs in the last four overs but it was the sheer brilliance of Mohit Sharma who took the game away by defending 17 runs off the last over.

Ambati Rayudu scored 49 off 35 balls before he got run out after a good sigh at stumps by Ashwin.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and opted to field first. In reply, Gayle played his storm as he scored 63 runs off just 33 balls to give an edge to the home side. KL Rahul scored 37 runs off 22 balls and Mayank Agarwal (30) and Karun Nair (29) also chipped in as KXIP scored 197 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 198, CSK didn’t start off well, they lost early wickets as they were 56-3 in the seventh over but Dhoni and Rayudu in the middle kept the game going.

Suresh Raina who was injured did not play the game.
