Defending Champions Mumbai Indians continued their chances of playing in the semi-final stages in this season by defeating Kings XI Punjab by six wickets at the Holkar Stadium, Indore on Friday.
MI won the toss and opted to bowl. Batting first, Kings XI Punjab scored 174 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.
Chris Gayle (50) and Lokesh Rahul (24) provided a wonderful start in the power play overs. Others players like Karun Nair and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with their 20s and scored 23 and 29 respectively.
Chris Gayle hit two sixes and six fours in his half-century.
In reply, Mumbai Indians chased down the target with an over to spare. Suryakumar Yadav (57) and Ishan Kishan (25) laid the foundation after an early scare that saw Evin Lewis caught behind the wicket to Mujeeb ur Rahman.
Hardik Pandya scored 23 while Rohit Sharma (24) and Krunal Pandya (31) completed the chase. Krunal’s 31 run cameo came off just 12 balls. It included four fours and two sixes.
Surya Kumar Yadav hit three sixes and four fours while scoring his half-century. He was adjudged Man of the Match.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked three wickets.

Chennai Super Kings will play Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MCA stadium, Pune. CSK defeated RCB in the previous game.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will take against Delhi Daredevils at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium, Hyderabad. SRH are placed at the top of the points table while Delhi Daredevils needs to win the game for any chances of qualifying in the top 4.
