The newly appointed captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 11th season of IPL, Dinesh Karthik said that he is aware of team’s expectations as he is filling the shoes of Gautam Gambhir.
KKR did not choose to keep the two-time IPL winning captain Gambhir and bought the Tamil Nadu batsman for 7.4 crores.
The Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan team emerged champions in 2012 and 2014. They also made it thrice into the playoffs.
Karthik said, “What Gautam Gambhir has achieved for KKR is phenomenal. He’s left a benchmark.”
DK has an amorous experience of playing with different franchises such as RCB, MI, KXIP, DD and GL in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Being a leader of the team, the management will expect from me the same. I’m aware of the expectations. Yes, there would be pressure. As a captain, you’re expected to at least go to the playoffs, that’s the least anybody can expect. I think I’m at a stage where I can handle it and get the best out of the team,” Karthik added.
He looked like a complete batsman in the limited overs format of the game after his thriller in the Tri-series final in Sri Lanka.
On his batting position, he spoke “I will bat at different position than what I did in the Indian game. IPL is about dealing with tricky situation, handling pressure.”
While he will be busy in IPL, his wife and India’s squash-ace Dipika Pallikal is eyeing a second goal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. She won gold in Glasgow four years ago.
