Dinesh Karthik hit last ball six as India defeated Bangladesh by 4 wickets to clinch the Nidahas Trophy title.
The final of the Nidahas Trophy took place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. India won the toss and opted to bowl first. In reply, Bangladesh was in trouble as they lost their first four wickets for just 68 runs but managed to post a decent total on board by scoring 166 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs.
Sabbir Rahman scored 77 runs off just 50 deliveries with seven fours and four sixes. Mahmudullah contributed 21 while Mehidy Hasan chipped in with 19 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for picking 3 wickets for just 18 runs in 4 overs. Jaydev Unadkat scalped two wickets.
In reply, India started on a good note as the skipper Rohit Sharma continued his good form. He scored 56 off 42 balls. Manish Pandey scored 28 and Lokesh Rahul contributed 24 in the run chase, but it was Dinesh Karthik who finished off the game in style. Dinesh scored 29 runs off 8 balls.
He came to the crease an over after Vijay Shankar missed 4 deliveries on a Trott off Mustafiqur Rahman’s over that yielded just one run. India required 34 runs off last two overs. Karthik kept the hopes alive by scoring 22 runs in the 19th over. He also hit six as India required 5 runs off the last ball to win the game. Rahman bowled four economical over for 21 runs.
Washington Sundar who picked 8 wickets in five matches was for Man of the Series.
