Narine’s fifty helps KKR win their opening game: KXIP too wins

Sunil Narine scored 19 balls 50 to help his side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by four wickets at Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.

Narine who was once again assigned the duty of an opener by his franchise made sure he provided a powerful start in the powerplay overs as he struck 5 sixes and four fours in his innings. He also completed his second fastest fifty off just 17 balls.

Meanwhile, Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik chipped in with their thirties with Andre Russel playing a cameo to ensure KKR reach the victory line with seven balls to spare. Chris Woakes picked 3 wickets and Umesh Yadav managed 2 wickets in their quota of four overs.

Earlier, RCB posted 176 runs in for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Opener Brendan McCullum scored 27 balls 43; AB De Villiers hit 43 runs off 23 balls while skipper Virat Kohli managed 33-ball 31.

RCB were going strong in the middle overs when part-timer Nitish Rana came into bowl the 15th over and dismissed both Kohli and De Villiers of successive balls. Vinay Kumar also picked up two wickets.

Sunil Narine was adjudged Man of the Match for his fifty runs and one wicket.

Earlier, KL Rahul slammed the fastest IPL fifty off 14 balls at the PCA stadium in Mohali as KXIP beat Delhi Daredevils by six wickets. Karun Nair also scored his fifty for the same side. DD had posted 166 runs of seven wickets in their 20 overs with skipper Gautam Gambhir scoring a half-century.
