Kings XI Punjab’s co-owner Preity Zinta lashed out against the team’s mentor and the former Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag for KXIP’s loss against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.
A media report said Preity Zinta questioned him about team’s tactics during the game. Zinta questioned Sehwag’s decision to send skipper R Ashwin to bat at number three, said the report. Ashwin was sent ahead of Karun Nair and Manoj Tiwari but fell for a duck.
The report claims that Sehwag may end his five years in association with the KXIP franchise after the end of this IPL season.
The franchise is jointly owned by Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia and businessmen Mohit Burman.
Zinta is yet to comment on the report. Burman, meanwhile, has said that he spoke with Zinta and Sehwag and there’s no problem.
KXIP is yet to book a place in the playoffs.
Viru had told the other owners to rein in Preity. He kept his cool after the match.
Virendra Sehwag was roped in by Kings XI in 2017 as a mentor. This year he had played a key role in the IPL auction. The team so far has done well to be placed third in the league table.
However, KXIP failed to chase a target of 158 runs against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Their third loss in last four matches.
Ashwin who came up at the No.3 spot departure probably tried to the do the job of a pinch hitter but unfortunately got out for a duck. Despite KL Rahul heroics, no one of the other players on the other end could help him due to fall of wickets at regular intervals.
Speaking about the match at the post-match presentation, Ashwin had said that the team was probably 10 runs short behind where they should have chased the target.
