On Wednesday, International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Indian spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja tops the ICC Test rankings for bowlers.
Jadeja’s six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test against Australia helped him to attain this position for the first time throughout his cricket journey till now.
With this top rank, both bowlers have 892 points each.
Meanwhile, Ashwin has slipped one position down in the all-rounder’s ranking and is now at number two, below Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan, who has 441 points.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli dropped one spot to number three with 847 points, one point behind England’s Joe Root. However, Australia captain Steve Smith remains at the top of rankings for batsmen with 939 points.
Player of the match, Lokesh Rahul, with his perfect 90 and 51, gained 23 places to reach the 23rd spot.
However, with spectacular performances in recent times assured India’s number one position in the ICC Test Team rankings and it will receive $1 million as a reward from ICC after the April 1 cut-off date.
