Sam Billings held his nerve in the last few overs to help Chennai Super Kings (CSK) win their first game by five-wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium played after two years of the team suspension.
The Englishman scored 23-ball 56 runs that included five sixes and two fours. At one point of time, it seemed tough for the men in yellow to get the much-needed runs as MS Dhoni got out in the 17th over that left CSK requiring 48 runs off 21 balls for victory.
Billings was adjudged Man of the Match.
D Bravo and R Jadeja also held their nerve to win the game. Moreover, Vinay Kumar bowled a no-ball in the last over as CSK registered five wickets win.
Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu provided a blazing start to CSK as they added 75 runs for the first wicket and made complete use of the power play overs.
Dhoni Innings too Slow: MS Dhoni could only manage 25 runs off 28 balls before he got out caught behind to Dinesh Kartik off Piyush Chawla’s off his last over. It could have affected the run-chase CSK as they were chasing a target above 200.
Earlier MSD won the toss and sent Kolkata Knight Riders to bat who managed to score 202 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. At one point, they were 5 down for 89 but well recovered by Andre Russell who outclassed CSK’s bowling to score 88 runs off just 36 balls that included eleven sixes and a four.
