Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to defeat Chelsea for the first time at their home by winning the match 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues took the lead after Alvaro Morata headed a goal in the 29th minute. Later Christian Eriksen made it 1-1 at halftime.
Deli Alli scored twice on his 100th premier league appearance. He scored 62nd and 66th minute goals.
The win takes Spurs to within two points of third-placed Liverpool. The long-awaited win is a sign of progress for the Mauricio Pochettino’s side as Spurs look to set a place in the Champions League for a third straight season.
Spurs manager Pochettino said, “It’s a fantastic weekend for us, a massive three points, and we are in the best way to achieve the top four at end of the season. That is our challenge.”
“We are so happy for our fans after 28 years to win again at Stamford Bridge.”
The loss means that Chelsea might not qualify for the Champions League football next season. Chelsea is eight points behind Spurs with seven matches remaining.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte kicked a water bottle into his dugout. It seemed a clear sign of frustration by a man who knows his days in charge are numbered.
On team’s possibility of qualifying in the Champions League, Conte said: “We have to try until the end to catch the teams in the Champions League places and in this case, it is Tottenham and Liverpool.”
“We have to try.”
Chelsea will next face West Ham while Tottenham Spurs will play against Stoke City.
